# Placing an Order

> How to use RoomDrop with DoorDash or Uber Eats.

## Before you order

Make sure you've:

* Downloaded the RoomDrop app and signed in
* Added your room as your primary delivery address in **Account → Delivery Preferences**
* Enabled push notifications for RoomDrop

## Step 1: Start a drop in the RoomDrop app

Open the RoomDrop iOS app and start a drop. We'll generate a **unique phone number** for this order — it's new every single time. Copy it.

## Step 2: Place your food order

Open DoorDash or Uber Eats and build your cart. Before you confirm checkout, find the **Send as gift** option and enter the RoomDrop number as the recipient's phone number.

Then confirm your order as normal.

<Note>
  The "Send as gift" field is how DoorDash and Uber Eats accept a separate delivery contact number. It's not actually sending a gift — it just routes the delivery notifications to the number you enter, which is how RoomDrop intercepts your order.

## After you order

RoomDrop is now watching for the delivery notification. It can take **up to 10 minutes** for your delivery service to send the "on the way" text — this depends on the delivery platform, not RoomDrop.

When we receive it, your drop is automatically posted to runners on your campus. RoomDrop will start a **Live Activity** on your Lock Screen and send push notifications as things progress. You don't need to open the app — checking in is completely optional.

<Note>
  Keep push notifications enabled. If we have any trouble finding a runner or anything else comes up, that's how we'll reach you.

## Tips

<Tip>
  Add delivery notes to your address in RoomDrop (gate codes, specific entrance, etc.). Your runner sees these when they accept the drop.
